The specifications, Bills of Quantities and

tenders from the big sentractors for cutting

No. 10 should be produced.

Para. 13. All measurements are made by the Engineers

in this Department, and, where no deviation

is made from the Contract drawings, the

quantities originally taken out for letting

the contract are adopted. The process is a

simple one compared with dividing every

little bit of work into 3, 4 or more

contracts and making out measurements and

bills for each.

I do not sign every account, I only sign

the Pay List, containing an abstract of the

whole of the accounts under each main head.

As regards the number of copies of accounts,

I quite understand that the Treasury regu-

-lates this, but the fact that accounts have

to be made out in triplicate or quadruplicate

emphasizes my point as to keeping down the

number
